Invitation

If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…
If you’re a pretender, come sit by the fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!

I really like this poem. I have not read Shel Silverstein’s work since I was in grade school. I can remember the first person to ever introduce me to "Where the Sidewalk Ends". It was Mrs. O’Brian, my fourth grade teacher — one of the best teachers I have had!

I recently read an article about Shel that noted he wrote the music and lyrics for "A Boy Named Sue" that was performed by Johnny Cash. It is amazing how often one can come accross facts that are common knowledge for many but completely new to us.
