Detours are usually a pain in the neck, but today we took a detour and discovered VerHage Fruit Farm and Cider Mill. The detour wasn’t too painful and we came away with pumpkin donuts and apple cider. Delicious!

137 Days
The “Happy Meal” above was left out for 137 days and was photographed. Refinery29 posted artist Sally Davies’ pictures and the end result is both disturbing and to me, not at all surprising.

Mint
Swiffer and I are friends. Good friends. With two big black furry dogs, plus a myriad of allergies between Michael and I, our house has to be clean all of the time, so we buy Swiffers in bulk. Yesterday, I swiffered (is that a word?) five times and pulled out the vacuum twice. I use Pledge wipes to dust once a week and mop with a bucket and mop twice a week. I am obsessed with cleanliness.
Usually when I come across time saving cleaning gadgets on the Internet I pass them off because I actually don’t mind cleaning. With all our hardwoods and tile floors I should have purchased stock in Swiffer a very long time ago, but I enjoy cleaning my house. It reduces my stress level and helps me to live in the moment. Cleaning is very zen. Today, however, I read about Mint and almost had a cleaning anxiety attack.
Mint is a Roomba that does the Swiffering for you and I NEED one. Roomba was a poor excuse for a vacuum cleaner, but Mint is a high tech gizmo that actually produces results! Attach either a dry or wet Swiffer to the bottom and change the setting and that’s it. A GPS guided robot that Swiffers? Mint and I could be friends. Best friends.

Big Blue Sky
I am not a fan of flying. I can’t figure out whether it’s because I have a bizarre neurotic need to control everything and on an airplane I’m completely helpless or I’m just uncomfortable with people being hurtled through the sky at hundreds of miles an hour with only the ground underneath them. Regardless, I am not a good flier.
No amount of crazy measurement could add all the worry I accumulate when I fly, but it is truly nothing compared to what I rally around my brain when my family is flying. Michael is flying to Boston today and until he actually sets foot in Boston at 12:00 p.m. I will not be able to eat, rest, or otherwise sit still. For those of you who know what I’m talking about I’ve found Flight Aware, a website that does all the worrying for you. Flight Aware will tell me what time the plane is scheduled to leave vs what time it actually left, what time it’s scheduled to land vs what time it actually landed, and it will show me the flight path, photos of the plane and even send me email alerts. Isn’t technology amazing?
So, the next time your family member flies, try Flight Aware and you will be surprised how less bizarrely neurotic you feel!

Password DENIED!
Normally I wouldn’t blog about something as serious as passwords and getting hacked, but recently I discovered that my fantastic Mom had stored all of her personal information, including her extra simple passwords, in a notepad document on her “iTouch”*. The ever vigilant and security conscious Michael was on the case and in no time we had Mom using Splash ID, a secure password management program that works on her “iTouch” and her Macbook simultaneously. Michael and I both use Splash ID and it is amazing how easy it is to keep track of web logins and passwords. The program will also generate secure passwords and can be synced from our iPods to our Macbooks without any cords.
If you think your current passwords are the bees knees click over to How Secure is My Password and they will give you a rough estimate of how long a windows based computer might take to crack your codes. My Splash ID generated password would take 10 million years to break. Very nice. If Splash ID is out of your price range or you just prefer to go it alone, check out these helpful tips for setting the very best passwords.
*For those of you who don’t speak Mom, an “iTouch” is actually an iPod Touch that she is constantly confusing with the non-touch screen of her Macbook Pro.

Coffee Friday
I enjoy a good cup of coffee. Nothing too strong with just enough half and half to cut the bitterness down to a palatable level. Good stuff. Michael will tell you that I’m way too picky and my history with coffee makers is horribly complicated, but I like to believe I have a refined sense of what is good and what simply is not. Currently I use a French Press to brew my Joe on coffee Friday which takes longer, but is worth the extra effort. Our other more technological coffee maker is more prone to fits and doesn’t always complete its job properly, so I only use it when I’m in a rush. I recently came across this page of amazing coffee technology you will want in your kitchen for coffee Friday. Brew yourself a cup, click the link above and enjoy!
